Create Item Box Templates

Updated this week

Item Boxes are the core building blocks of a Design Book. They allow you to display project selections in a clean, structured format while staying linked to the item schedule.

What is an Item Box

An Item Box is a placeholder on the Design Book canvas that holds a Project Item (an Item ID and its associated Item). It can display:

  • an image only, or

  • an image plus text fields such as notes, descriptions, manufacturer info, and more.

The Item ID tag you see in the top-left corner appears only while working in the platform. It won’t show in your PDF export.

Create Item Box Templates

You can create standardized item box templates for your entire org to use from inside the admin console.

How it Works

  • From within the Books tab of the Admin Console, select the desired theme from the menu on the left, and click to edit the theme.

image
  • Click the blue plus to create a new page or select an Item page from the page layouts on the left hand side (choose Item from the Type filter to narrow your search).

image
  • Hover over the page preview and click Edit Page Layout.

image
  • Navigate to the Items tab on the left hand side. Drag an existing item box to edit onto the canvas or click the blue plus to create a new item box to drag onto the canvas.

image
  • Click once into the box and select the pencil icon to edit.

image
  • Click into the image portion of the box and use the corner arrows to resize as desired. Click outside of the Item Box onto the canvas to save the new size.

image
  • Click back into the box once and click the pencil icon. Click anywhere in the box and hover over any magenta spacer lines and drag to increase or decrease the space between elements.

image
  • Click into the text box to populate a menu of options above. Select from the choices to adjust the positioning of the text or to delete.

image
  • Click into an individual text field to delete, or click into an attribute text field to add or remove attributes. Keep in mind that when clicking into an individual text field, you will have access to all of the text editing tools at the top of your screen.

  • Click anywhere on the canvas outside of the item box once you have completed your changes. Click back into the item box once.

image
  • Once edits are complete, the box name will appear in a dropdown in the upper left, with an asterisk next to the name of the newly edit box. Click into the dropdown and select ‘New Style’ to name and save the new item box.
