Understanding Item Types: Primary Item, Dependent Item, and Options
The Item ID not only allows us to attach a Primary Item, we can assemble or include additional items, options, documents or specifications, that are relevant to the Primary Item (ItemID) and all locations attached to the Item ID. Let’s break these down:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Information stored at the Item ID is relevant for ALL Locations assigned to that ID, if any Location has different Information, use two options:
1: Create a new Item ID and store the information at each Item ID and then connect the relevant Locations, or
2: Store the relevant Location Information at the Location and not at the Item ID. (See Location section below)
Item ID
Primary Item
• The main or primary item associated with the Item ID.
• Example: A Tile.
Artistic Tile: A Train, White, Matte, 5" x 10" x 3/8", Ceramic
Dependent Item
• An item that depends on the Primary Item for context or relevance. (It is in itself and Item and usually has a SKU).
• Example: Grout is a dependent item for tile. If the primary item (tile) changes, the dependent item (grout) will likely change as well.
I have broken this Module down into specific areas. Please use the reference material below each video.
Item ID Option's
• A variation or customization associated with the Primary Item, usually from the same manufacturer. Not usually an item.
• Example: A Heat & Glo True Series Fireplace (primary item) might have three types of interior panels as options. These interior panels are stored as options under the manufacturer Heat & Glo in the 'Specifications & Options' catalog.
Here is the Training Module, please use the information below as a reference.
When the Heat & Glo True Series Fireplace is added to the Item ID:
1. You can attach the option (e.g., panel type), including its name and image.
2. These options can also be added to the Design Book canvas, ensuring clear and comprehensive presentations.
To order you need to select the option, without it, they order is not complete.
Item ID Specifications
A specification provides additional clarification to the Item ID in the form of detailed images or diagrams. For example, a Fry Reglet specification might illustrate specific installation details or design features.
These specifications can also be stored in the ‘Specifications & Options’ catalog, ensuring they are easily accessible for future reference and consistently applied across projects. This helps communicate precise design intent effectively.
Item ID Documents
The ability to attach documents to the Item ID ensures that all aspects of your design intent are clearly communicated. These attachments provide a complete and centralized reference for the project. This feature enhances collaboration and minimizes miscommunication, keeping everyone aligned with the design vision.
Item ID Alternative Items
When selecting an item, you often need to provide alternatives to offer the client flexibility in their choices. These alternatives are stored here for easy access, ensuring they are readily available during discussions and presentations.
NOTE: We are actively developing a ‘Selections Module’ that will enable seamless collaboration with your clients. This feature will provide a professional and intuitive interface for making final selections together, enhancing the decision-making process and client experience. (Launching summer 2025).
