Topics covered: Text boxes, Item boxes, Image boxes, Dynamic fields.

Updated over 4 months ago

There are 4 different components, called 'Elements', within the platform that streamline Book creation by allowing you to save components of the Book that need to be re-used on multiple pages. This ensures that your Book design is not only clean and consistent, but quick and easy to pull together. As you'll see below, all 4 Elements are very similar to create.

Creating Text Boxes

A Text Box is a grouping of text attributes that is saved in the Book for easy access on any page. To create a Text Box, follow the steps below:

Step 1: From within any page of your Book, select the Elements tab from the menu on the left, followed by the Text tab.

Step 2: Click the blue + to create a new Text Box or simply drag the Default option onto your canvas.

Note:

If you are working from within any Theme other than the blank Theme, you should notice a list of pre-created Text Box options on the left. You can drag any of these onto your canvas and begin typing.

Step 3: Select the text on your canvas to make any edits you'd like applied. The menu at the top will allow you to change font, size, color, etc.

Step 4: Once you've completed your changes, to save this new style, click the box with the existing Text Box name in the menu at the top of your screen. You will see an asterisk next to the Text Box name, indicating that changes have been made.

Step 5: Open the drop-down and choose either Update if you want to update the existing Text Box with the recent changes, or click + Style if you would like to create a new Text Box with these changes.

Step 6: If you select Update, the changes will be reflected in the list of text styles on the left. If you select + Style, you will have the opportunity to name your new Text Box and click Create.

Your new text style will be reflected in your list on the left.

Editing Dynamic Fields

A Dynamic Field is a text element that intelligently updates automatically on your Book. For example, a page number field placed on the canvas will automatically show with the correct page number according to where you have placed this page within the overall Book Layout, without any need for manual editing by you. To update a Dynamic Field, follow the steps below:

Step 1: From within any page of your Book, select the Elements tab from the menu on the left, followed by the Fields tab.

Step 2: You can see that all of the Fields are populated with the details that correspond with that project. Page numbers will update depending on which page they are placed. Select a Field and drag onto the canvas.

Your chosen Field will appear on the canvas.

Creating Image Boxes

An Image Box is a grouping of design attributes to be applied to the border of an Image, that is saved in the Book for easy access on any page. To update an Image Box, follow the steps below:

Step 1: From within any page of your Book, select the Elements tab from the menu on the left, followed by the Images tab.

Step 2: Click the blue + to create a new Text Box or simply drag any existing Image Box onto your canvas.

Step 3: Select the Image Box on your canvas to make any edits you'd like applied. The menu at the top will populate with edit options.

Step 4: Once you've completed your changes, to save this new style, click the box with the existing Image Box name in the menu at the top of your screen. You will see an asterisk next to the Image Box name, indicating that changes have been made.

Step 5: Open the drop-down and click + Style to create a new Image Box with the changes.

Step 6: Name your new Image Box and click Create.

Your new Image Box will appear in the list on the left.

Creating Item Boxes

An Item Box is a placeholder for a Project Item, that provides the details of that Item.

Creating an Item Box is similar to creating a Text or Image Box, but with several more editing options. To create an Item Box, follow the steps in the video below:

Note:

When creating an Item Box with attributes, a predetermined set of attributes will initially populate, but they can be changed by following the steps below:

Step 1: Begin by navigating to a book page within a project, and double click into the text portion of the Item Box.

Step 2: Click on any of the attribute fields. You will see a blue highlighted vertical ellipses appear next to the text.

Step 3: Select the ellipses to move, delete, or add other attributes. Once you have the attributes you want, click outside of the Item Box anywhere on the canvas to save.
