Design Exercise 4

Objective:
In this module you'll build a project from start to finish, using either a project of your own or our sample project, The Howe Residence (you can find the schedule for this project linked at the bottom of this article).

Time:
This exercise will take you about 4 hours.

Results:
By the end of the exercise, you'll officially be a design.efficiently pro! You will have created a project from scratch, complete with a detailed schedule and a stunning linked presentation.


Let's get started!

Note: In the exercise below, you will find links to helpful how-to videos and articles as you're working. Take some time to review them as you go. Check in with your trainer if you get stuck. We’re here to help!

  1. Create a new project – see project specifications below:

    1. Should be a completed project

    2. Can be a personal project, a project you have permission to use from your company, or you can use The Howe Residence project from Step 3

      1. Note: If using The Howe Residence, use the sample plans provided for Steps 1-3

    3. Project should include a set of plans and a complete schedule

    4. Schedule should contain a minimum of 60 Item IDs, throughout at least 4 Divisions (Finishes, Lighting, Furniture, etc.)

    5. Schedule should include at least 10 items that require either specifications, options, or dependents

    6. Schedule should include at least 5 items with an attached Installer and at least 5 items with an attached Supplier

  2. Upload Plans

  3. Create the Schedule framework (do not choose items yet – we'll do that in a moment!) with the following components:

    1. Rooms & Spaces

    2. Locations

    3. Item IDs

  4. Create a Design Book

    1. Use any template you like and edit to include the needed pages

  5. Begin adding Items directly on the Design Book canvas - review section 2 of this article.

  6. Export Design Book to PDF

  7. Create a Schedule Book

  8. Export Schedule Book to PDF

  9. Create a Procurement Book

  10. Export Procurement Book to PDF

  11. Create an Installation Book

  12. Export Installation Book to PDF

  13. Publish all documents and share links with trainer
