Design Exercise 2

Updated this week

Objective:
In this module you'll build on the project you started, adding another room to your project schedule. Next you'll experiment with building a custom presentation (design book).

Time:
This exercise will take you about 1 hour.

Results:
By the end of the exercise, you'll have expanded your schedule and acquired the skills to create a custom presentation.

Let's get started!

Note: In the exercise below, you will find links to helpful how-to videos and articles as you're working. Take some time to review them as you go. Check in with us if you get stuck. We’re here to help!

  1. Navigate to the project you created in Exercise 1 (named 'DPP Exercises 1-3')

  2. From inside the Schedules tab of the project (‘Rooms’ view), create the following room and spaces:

    1. Kitchen

      1. Kitchen (this one will be automatically created – no need to add)

      2. Island

  3. Add the following template to the kitchen space:

    1. Room: Kitchen

      1. Space: Kitchen

        1. Locations: ‘Kitchen’ template

  4. Add the following locations manually to the island space:

    1. Room: Kitchen

      1. Space: Island

        1. Locations:

          1. Plumbing - Faucet - Kitchen Sink

          2. Plumbing - Sink - Kitchen

          3. Plumbing - Shower Head

          4. Finishes - Countertop

          5. Hardware – Cabinet Hardware

          6. Lighting – Pendant

          7. Millwork & Casework – Kitchen Cabinet - Base

  5. Add items to each of your locations (you can choose from any of the items in the catalog)

    1. Note: Some divisions such as Millwork & Casework do not have offerings in the catalog but you should have a cabinet door style and finish option in your catalog from the new item you created on Day 1 – you can use this item for your kitchen cabinetry locations

  6. Create a Design Book

    1. Choose the ‘Simple Book’ layout from the minimalist theme (this theme will be set as the default in your test org)

    2. This book layout will need to be customized. Refer to this article to learn how to add pages to your book.

    3. Add an inspiration image to at least 1 of your item pages.

    4. Refer to this article to create and customize 2-3 different item box styles (be sure to save them!).

    5. Design your item page layouts to your liking. You can create as many item pages as you like. We suggest a minimum of a kitchen finishes page, a kitchen plumbing + appliances page, and a separate page for the kitchen island.

    6. Drag each of your items from the schedule onto the canvas into item boxes

  7. Export your design book to a PDF

  8. Navigate to your ‘Documents’ tab and publish the document

  9. Grab the link that is generated in the documents tab and paste into your browser to check your work.

By the end of Exercise 2, you will have completed the following:

  • Completed schedule with Kitchen (with island) added

  • Custom design book with all kitchen selections included (you should now have 2 separate Design Books)

Congratulations, you have completed Exercise 2! Next, you'll dive deeper into the functionality available in the Design.efficiently Schedule in Exercise 3.
