Design Exercise 1

Objective:
In this module you'll learn to create a basic project, starting with the schedule structure we use in the design.efficiently platform. Next you'll explore the different options for adding your design selections to a project, ending with a simple design presentation.

Time:
This exercise will take you about 2 hours, as you begin to familiarize yourself with the platform and walk through the basics.

Results:
By the end of the exercise, you'll have created a basic bathroom schedule and simple presentation book.

Note: In the exercise below, you will find links to helpful how-to videos and articles as you're working. Take some time to review them as you go. Check in with your trainer if you get stuck. We’re here to help!

  1. Review the introduction video

  2. Create a new project

  3. Upload a set of plans (refer back to Step 1: Plan Management)

  4. From inside the Schedules tab of the project, create a room and spaces schedule (Steps 1-5 of this article - don't create your Locations yet, we'll get to that in just a moment!):

    1. Primary Bathroom

      1. Primary Bathroom (this one will be automatically created – no need to add)

      2. Shower

      3. Water Closet

  5. Add a template to the primary bath space

    1. Room: Primary Bathroom

      1. Space: Primary Bathroom

        1. Locations: ‘Primary Bathroom’ template

  6. Add locations (steps 6-8 of this article) manually to the shower and water closet spaces

    1. Room: Primary Bathroom

      1. Space: Shower

        1. Locations:

          1. Plumbing - Shower Drain

          2. Plumbing - Shower Control

          3. Plumbing - Shower Head

          4. Finishes - Wall

          5. Finishes – Floor

          6. Finishes – Curb, Jamb, & Header

      2. Space: Water Closet

        1. Locations:

          1. Plumbing – Toilet

          2. Plumbing – Accessory – Toilet Paper Holder

          3. Finishes – Floor

          4. Finishes – Wall

          5. Lighting – Wall Sconce

  7. Navigate to this lighting manufacturer and select a wall sconce to add to your project

  8. Review this article and complete part 1, ‘Adding an Item to the Catalog', by adding your chosen wall sconce to the catalog

  9. Navigate to this cabinetry manufacturer and select from the door styles (heritage or modern)

  10. Navigate to the cabinetry finish options and select from the finish options

  11. Move on to part 2 of this article, ‘Adding an Item Using the Chrome Plugin’, by adding your chosen cabinet door style to the catalog

    1. Note: You will need to add the clipper to your chrome browser – instructions are in the article.

  12. Review this article and add the cabinet finish you’ve selected as an ‘Option’ to the catalog using the clipper

  13. Navigate to your Room schedule and add the new wall sconce to your Water Closet space under the appropriate location (refer to the first section of this article)

  14. Next add the new cabinet door style to your Primary Bathroom space under the appropriate location (Millwork & Casework)

  15. Now add the cabinet finish you’ve selected as an ‘Option’ to your cabinet door style, by following the steps in this article

  16. Add Item IDs and Items to the remaining locations you’ve created (you can choose from any of the items in the catalog)

  17. Create a Design Book

    1. Choose the ‘Primary Bath’ book layout from the minimalist theme (this theme will be set as the default in your test org)

    2. Delete the mood board page

    3. Click into the 4 item pages and begin dragging your selected items from the left hand side ‘Rooms’ tab of the schedule into the appropriate item box (refer to the first section of this article)

      1. Note: You do not need to adhere to the labels in the item boxes - you can drag any item into any box. The labels are only there to help you with a suggested layout.

    4. Delete any unused item boxes

  18. Export your design book to a PDF

  19. Navigate to your ‘Documents’ tab and publish the document

  20. Grab the link that is generated in the documents tab and share with your trainer
